My dear Mrs Griffin:
I dont think it nice for me to sign the Ussher papers down here as if a certain date, you witnessing the signature in N.Y. Mrs U. may getinto the hands of a sharp lawyer who might (?) upset everything provided for in the contract. Please write to Mr. Ussher & tell him the circumstances of you sending them, my reply &c & that I will execute them properly on Jany 25th. Nothing can suffer in mean time.
I return Mrs U's letter to Thomas

My dear Mrs G:-
I got your telegram this P.M. giving Gov. White's address. After I wrote to you for it. I thought it so important that I telephoned to Syracuse for it & thus got the letter off last night. That is the matter with N.Y. Office! Did you get any satisfaction about Raquette Lake letters? I got a very satifactory report from Jack McS the morning relative to G. party. All seems to be going on very well there.
Yours very sincerely

He might as well go there Wednesday PM & stay in NY all night at Sherry's as to take night train Wednesday night as contemplated. We will reach Syracuse at 2 P.M. -

My dear Mrs Griffin:
I failed to enclose Judge Brenner's telegram in my last letter I wish you would find out from Mr Smith if the Judge was sore because I did not return for his affair. I fear he was & I would not hurt his feelings for anything.
You may write to Duras & Pence that I spoke to Judge Taft about them as requested but he said he would not take up anything beside his cabinet till after Mch 4th & that then I will speak to him again. At that time I must write to him about Pence. I dont know anything about Duras except that Parsons ran him for Congress in an overwhelmingly Dem district
Please accept Amer Conven Dinner invitation
I dont even know who "Frank Fogerty" is. I would like to know who he is.
I will take a table for 8 at Peace Society dinner to Mr Root. You better write finally to the Secy of Cm & telephone Mr Lindsay Russell who is on Com & will have
charge of details & tell him I want a table near & if possible nexdt to guests table. I think I will invite Tarbells Englishes & Baldwins. You might telephone Mr English & ask him to keep Feby 26th open. The others will wait till I return.
Have Mr Farnham mail me one new blank check. He gave me two & I have used one for amt of bill I sent you. The other mill be used to pay another hotel bill Monday & I will need one more when I leave.
Please look thoroughly into the [?] Krew matter. Mr Hazard wrote he wanted me join. I replied that I thought I was a member but if not I would join. That is last I remember. You see they have a regular invitition &c through which Gov. Hughes just passed & I dont see why I did not get notice then or at some time & I dont see how I can belong unless Farn. have paid invitation fee &c.
Hope you got Mrs Us sent what did she mean by "when I leave here I shall be little trouble &c," do you think. Dont fail to find out about why Trust Co sent $450 & said semi annual. Be sure to keep memo of all things I write about for they are likely to pass entirely out of my mind after I have once written to you about them.
I am going to write to Jack McS directly, urging him to keep me posted in detail as to building hatchery &c.
Did you know Frank Gray was dead. Mrs Watson sent a clip from Syracuse paper saying he had choked to death on hafsteak at Eagle Hotel Utica. It is too bad I bought that Typewriter Stock back at 97 when it is selling at 65 I paid him $250 more than it was or is worth on the market just to prevent his [?] able to a say anything Jack thinks he state my causes &c. I am anxious to hear from Jack about his death &c.
Weather here superby. Just like summer. Wildflowers coming up everywhere. Had a session of two hours with Taft yesterday P.M. He has left this A.M. Things will be OK after Mch 4th.
Regards to all. Tell Mr Little I am getting my score down 2 or 3 every day & I'll give him the battle of his life on the links. With best wishes

Write Mrs Vick that I always supposed she knew that when a claim case was once passed in the omnibus bill it had to go to Court of Claims & be tried out & that I always felt we would have great trouble in proving that the things belonging to her Mother which were taken had been actually used by the Army & not destroyed because the law allows nothing if destroyed. Tell her if the Court decided favorably the passage of the bill again after that is only a matter of yours. I saw Law & he is dong & has been going everything he possibly could & will continue to.
Tell her every dollar for clothes &c comes out of my pocket & while I am willing to do all I can there is a limit.
You wrote that Buffalo Trust Co sent $450 semi annual payment. Please find just what this means. Have they increased payments from $800 a year, 200 quarterly to $900 a year 450 semi annually or what?
I reutrn F F & G application for you to hold till I see Mr Whipple with where I have had a long talk about my establishing my own nursery.
Will you telephone to Jefferson Ferry & tell him I rec'd his telegram about Taft not calling an extra session of COngress & will discuss the subject with Taft soon as I get a chance. I have postponed everything till he will not be so busy next week. On our trip to Atlanta I may get more chance than I have so far had.

My dear Mrs Griffin:
Everything has gone off most pleasantly &c. Mr Bowers had to leave us at Montreal where we went by boat from Deer Island, coming here Wednesday. They all leave tonight & mrs. W & I will go to Syracuse tomorrow (Sat) arriving there at 6 P.M. I want to avoid night travel if I can & think I will take a day train Monday reaching N Y at about 6 P.M. If I do I will telegraph for Monday AM. & you can notify Parsons & Jack Smith & if Mr Bowers of my class telephone Monday as he was to do, you can ask him if he wants to send word to me at the train & have Este or Rice bring it to me. Tell Mr Bowers that all the other men went from Camp to their homes or rather home to N.Y. We were going to all dine together in NY with Bowers Sunday evening if it could be arranged. If he is free Monday night I want him to dine with me. He better meet me at my apartments at seven & is Parsons is free he better be there too. Also Brenner & Jack if they desire to. Otherwise I'll see them (B & S) Tuesday. I will stay till Friday -
Either I will show up Thursday AM at office or you will get a wire saying what train I came on.
Genie wrote to John on Monday that she had heard nothing from the car. What a shame! If not del'd. Just go for whatever is at fault with a sledge hammer.
I got yours of the 24th OK with enclosures &c - The boiler came in time & is OK. Got pictures OK from Weymitz. Will see Gledhill & Kissel Tuesday - You better try to arrange to have Parsons & Bowers dine with me Monday at 7 at Sherrys. If Breimer wants to stay in town will be glad to have him also & Jack Smith. So one of those four would interfere with the others saying what they wanted to. Saw Cal Gleason at Deer Island.

Yesterday I rec'd your nice long letter of Sunday & I got a long letter from Mr Smith today. You & he letter make out a list of the invitation to various dinners &c. He speaks of one to Cmg Young on Feby 6th. I think that is night of Logan Club dinner. If so I'll go to both. It really makes it easier. About Gloris affair, I think you said L's Birthday, the 12th I must be in Syracuse on the 10th & 11th & I think I must go to camp on the 12th. But do nothing about these things till I return except to get a complete list of them. Put in Rert dinner on the 26th & Amer Comm on the 27th & then we go to Wash to inaugeration on Sunday the 28th. -
Now I am going to leave here Friday noon for Washington. The rest leave Sat noon & I meet them at Wash Sunday A.M. Have Quirl. meet us at 23d St Penn RR at 2.45 Sunday afternoon. When other check came tomorrow I will have to make it out for $150 Cash. If it does not came before I go I'll get the money from John Woodruff or John Wagner.
Now, you will have to give the Washington Trust Co a check for $2250 as per enclosed memo from Mr Gambier. This will doubtless necessitate getting Mr Farnham or Mr Ford to deposit $500 on a/c of dividend due on Aug 31st. You will have to send check to me at Deer Island via Alexandria Bay. If you dont get it back by 24th just explain to Gambier & a day or two next make any differences. I send enclosed therewith in Gambier's envelope the note signed. You better phone him that I have sent note to you & you are sending check to me to sign but see he gets the note anyway by Tuesday the 24th.
I am enclosing part of a letter from Jack McS about the boiler. Please communicate again with Wolfolk perhaps you better go there or have them send someone to you, or you can send Este with the letter for Jack & the diagram & talk with them a phone, making them understand that we have a camp full of people & have cut off all other hot water supply, so it is very serious. Don't quibble about cost that is whether I am to be charged for the new one. I'll fix that with W. It is a small expense. The whole boiler only cost $30 or $40 - Have it sent by fast freight from Barclay Street or by express. A few dollars must count in transportation. Awful thing it is gives out.
Please ask Mr Little & Mr Jack Smith to keep track of the newspaper sentiments regarding Gaynor for Mayor. Also tell Jack I think it would be well for Brenner to get in trust if he can wisely do so with Ingersoll, who will probably be Chairman of sub-cant of 100 & whom we all know my well, & whom I think Smith & Brenner are quite friendly with -
What day is election? Can it be the 2nd of Nov? Primaries are 21st I am sure & H F Celebration is from Sat the 25th to Sat the 8th of Oct. Please call these dates to Jack Smith attention & ask him when we are going to have our city convention.
Please telephone or write Mr Person & tell him has I am fixed till Monday the 30th. Tell him I am going to Deer Island with about two classmates of mine, just stopping on way back for a day or so at KKK. He will understand what this means & must expect an unite to camp which his letter I think hints at.
Please write Conklin I'll see him during week of Aug 30th Write in your name that letter was forwarded I sent word to you to say so to him. Bring his letter to my attention again
Have Jack Smith tell you what to write to Cromwell in answer to his & tell him I want to see him very much during week of Aug 30 if he is in town.

Glad car will be ready - Tell Quirk to be very attentive to Mrs John as we hope autoing will help her.

Do you know of any reason why I cant stay here till Feby 1st? I have written to Judge Brenner asking him if he will let me off from attending a dinner to the Ex Com & he is to give on the 25th & I asked him to wire me. He should get my letter when you get this next Tuesday. John's meeting on the 29th in Syracuse ccan be postponed as well as not & it is not important for me to be in Albany as I suggested on the 27th. I have a letter from Governor White telling me he has accepted invitation to attend dinner of Manf Assn in Bklyn on the 28th but he does not expect me there as he knew I was to be in S. on the 28 & 29. I have asked Judge Brenner to look after him & get his (White's) friends to attend dinner &c & that he could use my auto So if he wants it or Gov. White can use it when in town just tell QUirk I havfe given instruction to him through you. You better send for Quirk to come & see you & tell him personally. Wish you would wire on receipt if this about my returning. Mrs John is improving rapidly & we all think another week will do her a world of good. Beside "Grandfather" is getting a great rest & leaving to play golf which if continued will do him lots of good. I will wish Levermore excusing my attendance at Adelphi Meeting next week Monday & I will also explain to White & Barnes. I know of no one else. If there is let me know & I will write them an excuse for my non appearance.
Please tell Mr Little that I have done my best today to get Judge Taft to attend Amer Comer dinner on Feby 27th. He said he could not wish great positiveness as he would not get to Washington until that day & it would be less than a week before the 4th of March. He is to be in NY on the 26th to what he referred to as Root's dinner, but he said he must go to Wash that night on early train next morning as every minutes would count with him at just that time. I have not given it up, however. I will go at him again tomorrow & do my best. I am "coming on" so in my golf game that John & I are to play Taft & his partner Mr Boardman A Maleb next Wednesday. That may be a good time to talk Amer dinner with him again. I wonder what "the Root dinner" is. Please find out & let me know about it.
