Memo. for Mr. Woodruff.
September 15, 1904.
Referring to your letter of September 9th, would say that I had 400 shares of Worcester Salt Co. stock in the safe here: there were two 25 share certificates and one 50 share certificate. I, therefore, delivered the two 25 share certificates to Mr. Whiton and have received his check for $3300. and a new certificate for 17 shares. This will leave 367 shares of this stock in my possession here.
In reply to your other question, would say that with the exception of 200 shares of Union Typewriter Common, I have all your stock that is not hypothecated in the Maltine safe. In last February you wrote me that you had taken this 200 shares out of the loan at the Merchants Exchange Bank and was going to put into pool with Messrs. Whiton, Benedict and others. At that time you said the stock was in the safe at 239 Broadway and I had no further information in regard to it. When I saw Mr. Whiton, on Tuesday, I asked him about this stock and he tells me that this 200 shares is at the Bowling Green Trust Company under some deal with W. W. Merrell. This statement Mr. Merrell confirmed when I met him at lunch with Mr. Whiton and I have therefore, made a memorandum to this effect on your books here.
I have a charge against Henry Armstrong under date of June 1st for $100. loaned him and, as you suggested, have written him asking him to allow me to retain one-half of his wages each month until it is paid. I drew his check for the full amount this month, however, as I did not understand that you wished any deduction made until you hear from him.
Yours very truly,
(Signed) F. W. Farnham.
