My dear Mrs Meleney,
My thoughts were often with you & yours, and I hope & trust, that your Summer passes in “Full happiness.- - Your letter pleased me much, & I thank you for the same.- Mine has been a very busy Summer, - though a restful- one. I hold, that “rest” does not consist in Laziness,- but in “change of work”. And in this spirit I had a most desirable Summer.- I was in Saratoga & spent a truly delightful time there. I met again a charming former pupil, who, conjointly with Miss Shackleford, daughter

Daughter of Dr Shackleford, stand at the head of St Faith’s School- a “family-school” in Froebel’s spirit. They have 24 young girls from 6 to 18 years old; & two boys, resp: 9 & 10 years old. I must tell you about this remarkable school when I see you next. Mrs Sands, my former pupil, says : “she learned it all from me”, - & that every-thing was based on my teachings”.- It touches me deeply. It makes me truly happy. Both ladies are lovely to me- and my heart goes out to their unselfish, beautiful [loving] work.- Saratoga was “at its- finest”,- I returned, because the arrangements had been made, that I was to move this week to the Hoffman Arms. - Yesterday - to my great disappointment, I learned, “that the

Apartment will not be ready until another week! And this - I am sitting here in sore “discomfort” of my packed- up “goods”; but - my cheerful spirit has not left me. In- reverse! I feel elated. For- a boy arrived from Europe, containing some most interesting pictures- “family pictures.” It brings back “olden times”, - and I am happy over all the happiness that ever came to me during the past years. - I will not write again until “settled” in my “new home” - which may not be ere about the middle of September.- With love for the “united” Meleney- family, - I am - dear Carrie Cait- Affectionately You “Kgten Mother”
