My dearest Mrs Meleney,
It distress me to know you ill and suffering. And so very ill, I hear, you have been. I do sincerely hope, you feel better, & will soon re-gain your usually state of good health.- I wished to write, - as I told Edmund. But- when my work is done (& a long, quite hard day’s work it is/ &
[page 2]
Half a night is included in the same,- then I feel so really tired- out- that - several times- pen & paper ready for writing- I have gone to sleep in my chair- & woke in the “small hours”- when I had but to “hurry to rest”.- Have you read any letter to Edmund, & do you approve of what I said ? it was written in the “true Kglen spirit”, and you must “uphold” me in the same, please. - Our meeting will come off in a couple of days

Days,- and we shall have to miss you ! I am so sorry about it, for I would you so much to be present. Why don’t you send Mr Meleney as your substitute? I told Dr Merrill that we should be glad to see Dr. Maxwell.- After the meeting is over I shall leave the hall at once, - for I know, that I shall need rest, because of having “to give out” so much that morning.- Miss Blow is in the City, as you may know. And - after all
[page 4]
She will not lecture for us, this time. And I think: it is “all right”. For, as she lectures in Bklyn, New York & Newark for 50 cents a person, all those who [could] have heard her at our Association,- might not have gone to spend- elsewhere. Also she is over-crowded with engagements.- She will be with me on “Washington’s Birthday”. Think of me.- She will be here at the J.K.U. meeting, - & take part in the discussions.- And now, dear friend, I must come to a “close”.- Mrs [Howlett] was not accepted, I am sorry to say - because of the “[Maris]”! Also, that that should stand higher than- all else she has to offer.- with warmest love your always- Maria Kraus-Boelte
