My Dear Mrs Meleney,
Pardon delay in answering your last “good” letter, and not responding [ere] this in sending the news-paper clipping about Dr Hall’s Session. You will find it in the enclosed- as you handed it to me. Even now I have read it !- Much that Dr hall has said, is true. Mr Kraus & I often discussed these points. We must, however, be careful in dealing with them. Some time during the year, we may take this up [aid] one of our meetings!- I will refrain from [illegible] now. Mrs. Wheelock struck some “good points”, but has not been quite [forcible] enough.
[page 2]
The [best] persons taking up such “discussions] are necessarily in the dis-advantage. Discussions should include “a thorough knowledge of that which is to be discussed”-it as too important. Dr Hall is a “curiousness”. He, certainly shows, that he read [Froebel]; but what he said, shows also “that he read others”, who -years ago- in Germany- brought up [sincere] points; but - like a move- vanished .---
More [anon] about this !it is too [hot] to be “scientific”, and my “restful holy day is not yet quiet over. I shall leave again, to return about the 17th of September; and then I shall be very busy with preparations of Class, interviews, and my removal to “higher regions” in our Hotel. Oct : 5th I shall resume my work. And after the [sundale] of October I shall be at home again for my friends on

On Saturday mornings.-
I had a delightful, quiet & restful time at Narragansett Pier. Even Miss Sciepstein I saw but little, her house being “renovated”, her presence “at home” was needed.
There were some delightful people at the Inn, & among them, my dear young friends ! Mr & Mrs Comstock and little Johnathan. I found a “kind of Mr. Taylor” at the Pier, and had daily “drives all over the county”- I had my “Salt water baths” while I left, and looked “sun-burnt” & in general good condition, when I left a week ago.-
What a summer experience I had this year ! almost too much-including the excitement in June, the week in Washington, D.C.

Martha’s Vineyard, and Narr-gansett Pier. All in all, it has done me good, has tended to “rouse me” completely to my former independence-which some of my former [pinpoints]- in their loving endeavor- would almost “[crowd-out]”.- I am ready for the Fall “campagne” “Class”, “[Alumni]”, “Meetings,” and whatever else may turn up. I have a “charming” remembrance of my Martha’s Vineyard experience, - & shall entertain it always ‘. - Goodbye, and love to all !
Tell the boys, that the Bird’s Nest I brought safely home, - as also the pretty little [up & saucer] you gave me. - I trust, Grace is “hale & well” by this time.-
Pardon the [serawl]! I am [writing] on my lap.
Affectionately yours always
Maria Kraus Boelte
It is too hot to write more.
