My dear Lettia:
Mrs. Griffin has just told me about her conversation with you over the telephone. I will write to General Field and ask him if I can see him somewhere with you, or alone, on Tuesday afternoon, June 7th. Every minute of my time is engaged on Monday, and I cannot see him on that day. I suggested your coming down on the morning of Tuesday because we are all torn up at the apartments and John will have to come down the night before, so it will be impossible to provide you or your mother with accommodations there. I understand from Mrs. Griffin that you are coming down until on the sixth. If so, and your mother does not come down until the morning of the 7th, I will meet her at the station and stop for you wherever you say; or you can meet your mother also at the train, and she, you, John and I will then go over to Brooklyn. I propose to take lunch at the Brooklyn house Tuesday noon, after the interment and then go to my office. I will write all this to General Field, and try to arrange with him to meet me next Tuesday afternoon. AM sorry Eastman is no better.
Sincerely yours,
