I enclose a letter from John Purroy Mitchel, President of the Board of Alderman-elect, which explains itself. I also spoke to Mr. Prendergast about joining the Club; but he belongs to two downtown clubs and he doesn't feel justified in joining a third. However, they both said that they might join later.
