My dear Mr Woodruff
In an effort to raise money for this support and endowment of thiis free bed at the Hospital of the Good Shepherd. We are to have on the evenings of February 23rd and 24th an entertainment at the Alhamber called a "Carnival of Musical Romances." It is thought thtat a few words, from you, before this raising of the curtain, would add much to the interest of this occasion.
I venture therefore to ask, if you would graciously consent to give a short speech on either of those evenings?
In my quiet life, this free bed is near my heart which embolders me to make this request.
